Robert’s Story: Living Well With Parkinson’s Through Early Physiotherapy
When Robert first reached out to NeuroAbility, he was in a difficult place. His GP suspected Parkinson’s but he was still waiting for a formal diagnosis.
The uncertainty alone was challenging, but everyday tasks were starting to slip away too. His wife suggested neurological physiotherapy while he waited, which is what brought him to Taher.
From the outset, Taher focused on the practical things Robert was struggling with. Drying himself after a shower. Reaching the high shelves in his kitchen. Even walking was becoming more of a shuffle than a stride.
Robert felt restricted and frustrated by how quickly things were changing.
Once his diagnosis was confirmed and medication began to help, Taher progressed his sessions so they targeted the areas Robert needed most.
The shift was significant. With consistent sessions, Robert started regaining the abilities he thought he’d lost.
He put it very simply:
“I can now do all of the tasks I couldn’t do before.”
Today, Robert describes himself as feeling back to normal. The combination of stretches, functional exercises and medication has given him real confidence in his body again.
He’s regained independence in his daily routine and doesn’t feel held back in the same way. When asked what advice he’d give to anyone in the early stages of Parkinson’s, he didn’t hesitate:
“Use it or lose it. Keep moving with physiotherapy.”
He’s continued to build on his progress by adding Pilates into his week too, which he says makes a noticeable difference.
Robert’s experience is a powerful reminder that early, consistent neurological physiotherapy really can change the trajectory of Parkinson’s. His determination, paired with tailored support, has helped him reclaim the parts of life that matter to him.
