Chloe’s Story: Building Confidence and Strength Through Neuro Physiotherapy

At just 11 years old, Chloe has shown remarkable determination since being diagnosed with muscular dystrophy earlier this year.

Over the past few months, she has been working with Taher, one of our specialist neuro physiotherapists, to improve her mobility, strength, and confidence — and the results have been truly inspiring.

Starting Her Journey

“When I first started physio, I felt both nervous and excited,” says Chloe.

Her mum, Mary, recalls that those early sessions were a big adjustment, but soon, she began to notice real improvements.

“Her flexibility in her feet is better since Taher started the exercises, along with the splint he recommended and organised,” says Mary.

Making Progress — and Having Fun

For Chloe, physiotherapy isn’t just about hard work — it’s about fun and motivation, too.

“Taher makes the exercises enjoyable for Chloe by including interactive games that work on hand grip strength,” Mary explains.

“The games have scores and levels, which keep her motivated and help me see how she’s progressing while having fun!”

Taher’s home visits have also made a huge difference for the family.

“They make Chloe feel comfortable in her own home, and the sessions are less intrusive in her day,” says Mary. “He keeps the exercises varied and interesting.”

Climbing New Heights

This summer, Chloe joined NeuroAbility’s inclusive climbing wall event, where she put her new strength and confidence to the test.

“I really enjoyed the climbing experience,” says Chloe. “I felt stronger and was able to climb high!”

Her improved strength has also helped her take part in other activities she loves.

“Therapy has really helped when she goes to her Cub Scout group — she’s more able to join in with everyone else and can run about more easily,” Mary adds.

Support Beyond the Sessions

Taher’s support has extended far beyond therapy sessions. He recognised that Chloe’s hypermobility was part of her muscular dystrophy and tailored her exercises accordingly. He even offered to visit Chloe’s school to collaborate with her teachers on how to adapt P.E. lessons to her needs.

Mary shared:

“I’ve filmed a lot of their sessions and shown them to the school’s P.E. department, who now use them to tailor classes for Chloe. It’s been so helpful.”

Words of Encouragement

When asked what advice she’d give to another young person starting physiotherapy, Chloe  said:

“It’s hard to begin with — but worth the results.”

Chloe’s story shows how early neurological physiotherapy can empower young people to stay active, gain confidence, and take part in the activities they love — whether that’s climbing, scouting, or simply moving with greater ease every day.
